  This is such a troubling movie. These characters are not evil, they aren't saints either. Just trying to lead a normal life of dignity which is stripped by the Global North's obsession with power. Destroy a nation, tear it apart with war to fund your corporates and then, close down borders for their refugees. All this in the name of development. This film is REAL.

  Such a tight thriller, puts you in a spot. I was often left wondering how I'd act if I was in any of those characters' place. And that's what I think a good film would do, make you think, empathise.

  I am still trying to understand what was the point behind such a treatment to the narrative. Was it to make a film that's real or a film that's a fantasy. There's definitely something wrong if it's the latter because the issue dealt here, the Devdasi system is real and brutal AF. And you can't afford to make fantasies out of it.
