I feared this would look too anime, like One Piece of the Ring or something but this was truly a gorgeous film. It used visual elements of the Jackson films, some of the soundtrack and without spilling the beans some voices, too. The story was smaller and stakes located entirely in Rohan which was nice.
I thought the character design and voice work did a good job of distinguishing each person which can be tough when everyone wears similar armor…
Been quite a while since I saw this. Last time was in a theater with those added comic book transitions and happy to say the version I just saw didn't have them. Great visuals, music and costumes. Watched this in response to hearing the new Lin Manuel Miranda concept album. I love the new musical version and the more optimistic take on the story which I was reminded of seeing the more violent and deadly version here.
Saulnier won me over with Green Room and Blue Ruin. This locks it in. He doesn't miss. Who is this Aaron Pierre guy? Did I just see the birth of my new favorite action lead? He was amazing.
