The script was outstanding and there were some absolutely hilarious scenes. It's not what I was expecting at all. It might end up as my favourite film of the whole year, the rest could be all downhill from here lmao.
And that ending was perfect.

The Count of Monte Cristo 2024
Beautiful scenery, great acting, probably the best adaptation that's been made so far... But even as someone who hasn't read the book, it's very obvious that a lot of information and background about certain characters was cut, leaving the viewer a bit lost in the sauce at certain points, lacking context. I wonder if a film is the right way to adapt this novel, as opposed to a TV series, especially since the novel was originally published as a series as well.

I had a good time. Great acting.
The ending was deeply unsatisfying for me, especially in terms of figuring out where the characters stand. I've read the screenwriter say in interviews that he considered the dynamic "closed" with the ending, but I couldn't disagree more. I don't understand how he could've thought he finished up any sort of character plot here.
But then again, I didn't write a movie, so what do I know??
In any case, it didn't make a strong impression on me. Tomorrow I won't think about it, and next month I probably won't even remember I watched it.
