Observing the lives of fourteen citizens every seven years since 1964 from differing social and economic backgrounds, 63 Up is in equal parts an unusual as well as absorbing documentary. It’s astonishing to watch these adults juxtaposed with their younger selves and seeing how their lives have progressed, and by spanning fifty-six years, director Michael Apted has furthermore created a continuous record of a country evolving. It’s extended runtime provides plenty of room to stride through a variety of issues. The interviews are continually sincere, from their hopeful childhood ambitions to what they aspire to accomplish in their remaining years. This is a startling achievement in documentary filmmaking.

I said we were going to watch Up. You thought we were going some cute Pixar movie, but no I clearly meant the 57-year-long documentary series where you watch children grow old. The doors will unlock 14 hours from now.
Praise the heavens, Michael Apted finally found a decent editor. Seven years have once again gone by...
The changes this time around are more noticeable. The participants look older and loss has seemingly touched all of them in recent years. Mortality is something to be faced up to, with Nick having to accept that they may not be around for 70 Up whilst Lynn didn't even get to make 63 Up, having passed away a few years ago. Heartbreaking.
Of course whenever a new series of Up starts it seems like the whole world wants to know how Neil is getting on. Michael Apted knows this, which is why he saves Neil to the last episode. The bastard.

I came slightly late to this having watched 7 up about 7 years ago but quickly ran through the series and have been patiently waiting for an opportunity to watch this knowing that Michael Apted has now passed away I fear this might be the last of the series. Watching this I was flooded with a lot of nostalgia for the material feeling invested with there stories as time progresses wanting to see how they have changed or in some ways haven't. I feel that this time most feel candid like they haven't been since the original however they have more awareness of who they are now and of course a better language palate to articulate. I'm going to miss this series but I'm very thankful for having watched it. Definitely an interesting documentary on being human.
The final installment of the Up Series is easily one of the best. Reflective on their own lives and this intimately personal journey is one of the most rewarding experiences I've had. This is the first installment that unfortunately has someone pass away between films which makes the clip of her saying how proud she is of the life she had, have a powerful effect on me. To see someone truly at peace with their life is one of the most beautiful moments I've seen in film since I've watched their journey over nine installments.
This entire Up journey was incredible. It seemed almost pointless watching other people's normal lives on screen but it's been a reflective experience for me.…

Having seen every single part of the iconic British series of the "Up" films -- all individual links for reviews there, if you're so inclined -- it made the wait for 63 Up so exhausting.
