Asso (Ace), the best poker-player in town, was killed in his wedding night, because he won too much against a bad loser. Ace feels like the kind of '80s comedy that if it had been made in the USA, it would have starred Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn and I'd have loved it at ten years old even if I didn't understand all of it. I think with the right people in it and behind the scenes, this could be a remake that would go down well with people today, but then again, I seem to have a very different sense of humor than most people today. Anyhow, I enjoyed the hell out of this one. Maybe you will too.
Adriano Celentano #3 --- Celentano plays a gambler named Asso who is killed in his wedding night. He has to wait in line to get into heaven so he visits his now-widowed wife Silvia (Edwige Fenech). Because of her love for him, she's the only person who can see him. From that point on Asso helps Silvia to find a new husband so that she can live a normal life again.
After the film (Mani di velluto) I've previously watched this one gets sillier again. The main reason to watch this is to see another movie with Edwige Fenech in it. She plays one of the main characters here which is great. She's stunning as always.

Before i talk about this movie i have something to say. For me personally "Edwige Fenech" is the most beautiful actress in cinema history. Even more than Anita Ekberg, Claudia Cardinale, Grace Kelly.....you name it. She acts in a few of my favourite movies of all time like "Your voice is a locked room and only i have the key" or "The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh". She is absolutely fantastic.
So, as for the movie "Ace" goes, Celentano plays - like always - Celentano. There are really funny scenes in this and i can´t believe that i didn´t saw this flick earlier. I watched most of the Celentano-films as a kid, but never got to see "Ace". Thankfully i did now and i even got to see the great "Edwige Fenech".
4th day into a Covid infection I thought, I should try to watch a film. Something easy. Maybe something funny. So I took the first Adriano Celentano film I could find in German dub (in the legendary Schnodderdeutsch dub that makes, a lot of people say, the films much better, especially the Spencer/Hill films and I guess Celentano too; the German voice alone transports me back into my childhood). Normally I hate dubs. This film isn't good in any way but the charme of Celentano and the puns were good enough to distract me from my illness (oh misery). Maybe it is a little bit too long. Ah, and Edwige Fenech has a big role in this one.
I really never liked the movie "Ghost", because I thought it was lame. I'm pretty sure "Ghost" was a rip-off of "Asso", so there's another reason not to like it--it was a straight rip.
"Asso" I enjoyed a lot more than "Ghost", which isn't saying all that much since I despised "Ghost" so much. "Asso" is a decent rom-com which tackles the material in a much more enjoyable fashion than "Ghost". "Ghost", if I recall correctly, was crushingly depressing. "Asso" takes the exact same set of circumstances and makes them light-hearted.

Commedia surreale che regge sulle spalle di un Adriano Celentano che fa Adriano Celentano e di una Edwige Fenech nel ruolo della bellissima stupida. Un film bidimensionale, simpatico e perlopiù innocuo.
Nota a margine per la sempre assicurata umiltà di Celentano, qui anche nelle vesti per nulla ingombranti del Padre Eterno.
Ohne die Synchro von Reiner Brandt wäre dieses Adriano Celentano Abenteuer nicht so unterhaltsam geworden. Auch wenn diese sich im Vergleich zu den anderen Brandt Synchros noch arg zurückhält. Nicht der beste Film des italienischen Kultstars, der sich im Mittelteil ein klein wenig zieht, aber unterhaltsam ist er allemal.

"Asso" steckt voller unerwarteter Coolness, die Adriano Celentano gelungen und in mehreren Rollen, darunter auch Gott, jederzeit ausspielt. Diese wird durch die deutsche Synchronisation verstärkt und glücklicherweise nie geschmälert, indem sie etwa in kalauernde Peinlichkeiten entglitte. Auch das Drehbuch steckt voller unerwarterter Wendungen, wie sie in einer Komödie gern gesehen sind und besorgt bereits während des ersten Aktes das Ableben des von Celentano gespielten Protagonisten Asso, der jedoch als Geist zurückkehrt, um seiner Frau, nun Witwe, bei der Partnersuche unter die Arme zu greifen. Vieles wird bereits "Ghost - Nachricht von Sam" (Zucker 1990) vorweggenommen, zudem spielt "Asso" viel virtuoser auf der Klaviatur vielschichtiger Unterhaltung.
The things I’ll do for my Queen. I’ve been searching high and low for Edwige Fenech flicks and this was next on the docket. I didn’t know it was gonna be a high concept comedy about a poker player getting killed and having to stick around on earth until his wife, Edwige, finds a new love. I ended up laughing a lot more than I was expecting. Some real nice visual gags. But, there isn’t enough Edwige in it. She’s kinda relegated to the sidelines a lot.
