I think if you can watch this movie and feel anything besides complete and utter joy and happiness, you have no soul. So cute and wholesome and wonderful as so many family films made in the 90s were.
My wife woke up this morning surfing a weird wave of nostalgia and somehow pulled this movie out of the back corner of her brain and insisted that we show it to our son. I guess she used to watch it a lot. I think I've seen it before? I honestly don't remember.
Anyway it's a mostly depressing family movie about a harbor family that adopts a seal. The seal wears funny clothes and blows raspberries with his tongue a lot. A confusing bad guy gets drunk a lot and blames the seal for all his problems.
That girl from Napoleon Dynamite plays the little girl of the family and Andres best friend.
I spent most of the time during the movie trying to think of other famous Andres. I got;
Andre 3000
Eric Andre
Andre The Giant
That's it.

Quite cute! Hadn’t thought about this in so damn long.
One of my best mates is picking this one up at The Last Video Store on upcoming episode.
George Miller directed it so you know it f**king rules.
2022 edit of my 2015 review:
Different George Miller. Never updated when I found out a few hours after I originally posted this. Lmao oh dear
One morning, I was surfing with my buddy Claron at Zuma Beach in Malibu. We were sitting about a hundred yards out, waiting for a set, and I was telling him about a terrible date I’d been on the night before. I had my back to him, looking out at the horizon, and I must’ve gone on for a good five minutes without any response. Now, Claron was a pretty Zen dude, the type who listens more than he talks, so I wasn’t discouraged by his silence and just kept rambling on. A moment later, though, I glanced over at the shore and noticed someone who looked an awful lot like my buddy paddling up to the beach. This was…
I feel so bad, so very very bad for the kids of today. The 80s and 90s was just objectively a built different era of cinema. The music, the acting, the writing. It’s so heartfelt, so wholesome and no matter how bad of a day I’m having. A Gen X family friendly film will always lift my spirits up. This little girl and her seal are so adorable, that I’m brought to near tears for most of the run time. Also between Fargo S1 and Andre.. Keith Carradine is the ultimate girl dad. Also he’s a sea lion. Not a seal and yes there is a difference.

One of my favorite, sappy comfort watches from my 90s childhood. the Maine coastal setting is beautiful and the wholesome retro chic is perfectly charming. Tina Majorino is so freakin adorable in this. There is a line where she literally says to the seal : "I know you're sad and you miss your mom, but please don't die, and I promise I'll be your best friend forever" 😂 Now that's some damn good emotional manipulation right there
This is one of the most idiotic movies I have ever heard of in my entire life but it's one of my girlfriend's childhood favourites so I was always gonna make the effort to sit down and watch it.
Little did I expect that I would have a silly amount of fun with this film. Don't get me wrong, it's still idiotic but you can't honestly tell me this isn't hilarious for all the wrong reasons. I will actually own this one day and watch it time and time again. I cant believe this film was made, it is SO stupid. Struggling not to give this a five but it is undoubtedly terrible. Just see it for yourself if you're curious.
Why is everyone hating on this movie on this stupid fucking app.
Stupid fucking film nerds go get laid
Andre is a masterpiece
Andre Supremacy!

the mom was a milf! must watch for lesbians
“Mom figured Andre was watching too much television.”
Apparently sea lions can get seasonal depression.
This was a very “meh” film. Apart from the animal acting, there wasn’t really anything I cared about it. If it weren’t for my animal loving sister wanting to see all the animal scenes, I would’ve turned this film off early. Kinda makes sense that no one remembers this film.
andre is wanted for 8 counts of assault
