  Zwei Reviews, je nachdem, wo ihr persönlich steht.

  Für Zyniker:

  Kennt Ihr die Szene aus Amelie, wo sie einschläft und der Schweinelampenständer und das Bild miteinander reden? CLEO ist die Spielfilmvariante dieser einen Szene. Oder...stellt Euch vor, Jigsaw würde mit Euch ein Spiel spielen. Ihr kommt nur aus einem Raum, wenn Ihr einen Laster Zuckerwatte esst, in rund 90 Minuten. CLEO ist das Musterbeispiel von 'gewollt, nicht gekonnt'. Die ganzen visuellen Ideen sind mit "Selbstzweck" nicht einmal ansatzweise beschrieben. Und als Geschichte bekommt man einen Kindergeburtstag mit Schnitzeljagd, wo der Gewinner der Klassenschönheit auf die Wange küssen darf. Oder klar gesagt, wenn der dt.   Ah yes, Cleo, the German film that dared to ask, “What if The Grand Budapest Hotel was made on a Berlin student film budget and filled with wish-granting watches, underground treasure hunts, and forced whimsy?”

  I went into this movie thinking, Cool, extra credit! How bad could it be? The answer: sehr bad. This was not a film; this was an aesthetic mood board that someone tried to duct tape a plot onto. Imagine if Wes Anderson took a trip to Berlin, forgot how to write dialogue, and just let a Pinterest algorithm direct the movie instead.

  The protagonist, Cleo, spends the film trying to rewrite her past by searching for a magical clock—because, of course, nothing says “good storytelling”…

  100% my cup of tea. Dreamy, romantic, visually inventive, funny, colorful and a little unhinged. It shares a lot of DNA with "Amelie", certainly, but by setting the film in Berlin, the film manages to find its own voice- including using urban legends to great effect. Simply a joy to watch, put a huge smile on my face that lasted, long after the credits were over.

  Der visuelle Einfallsreichtum war schon deutlich im Trailer zu erkennen. Würde dieser Trailer nicht existieren, hätte ich dieses kleine Film-Juwel wahrscheinlich niemals entdeckt. Doch nun bin ich hier und habe den Film gesehen. Und ich habe bekommen, was ich erwartet habe.

  Mit einem Mix aus Witz, Charme, Trauer, Liebe, kindlicher Fantasie, Naivität und einer Schatzsuche, mit Mythen und Geschichten der Stadt Berlin, erzählt man hier ein Märchen, das voller Kreativität blüht. Die Entwicklung der Protagonistin ist interessant aber zum Ende hin ziemlich vorhersehbar. Auch die restlichen Rollen sind sehr oberflächlich und tragen nicht viel zur Handlung bei. Es ist wahrlich keine perfekte Geschichte. Sie ist klein, aber bestückt mit einer besonderen (nicht spektakulären) Magie/Fantasie und zahlreichen visuellen Einfällen aus der…

  Kinda cute, but also kinda like the poor German equivalent to Amélie or Moonrise Kingdom. And at this point I'm not sure what to think of the so obvious use of the Moonrise Kingdom elements in the beginning.

  Es geht also doch noch - gute Filme machen in Deutschland. "Cleo" jedenfalls ist ein Glanzstück des deutschen Kinos, mit frischen visuellen Ideen, mit frisch erzählten Geschichten und einem hervorragend besetzten Ensemble!

  If you like films like Game night and Palm Springs this is for you. I just loved how creative the visuals are. One of the most pleasant and breathtaking visual creativity I saw for a romcom in recent times. Watch it out, Y'all wouldn't regret.

  Ah, l'immaginazione, l'animazione cutout in stop motion, i personaggi eccentrici e solitari, i viaggi nel tempo. È tutto carino ma sul filo della stucchevolezza, finché quel limite non viene oltrepassato quando la protagonista incontra il suo comprimario. E allora non solo "che noia". Mi fa anche incazzare che, al di là della confezione fantastica (nel senso di genere fantastico) e fuori dagli schemi, Cleo sia sostanzialmente l'ennesima banalissima storia d'amore standardizzata nei ruoli e l'ho già detto "che noia"?
