Ottam, 50–50, Daud - Run
A road movie, with shades of crime noir and a brand dry comedy that broke or changed my sense of humour forever.
For years I thought this was a film that was ahead of its time. Be it because of the strength it provided to its leading girl or the remote surroundings it was filmed around or the off-kilter dark humour it blended with violent actions. It begins with a robbery that goes right, but is never seen on screen. Although the issue here is that he has robbed something that he has mistaken for gold and he thinks that his promised commission is not nearly enough. Chaos ensues as both, the security forces and goons chase him. Starring my…
the best thing of this film is urmila, urmila and urmila 😍
a reboot of pinky and the brain, but with paresh rawal reprising his role as pinky from daud.
Was a lot more funnier when I watched it during childhood but still a very fun movie to watch, Urmila in her prime 🥵
One final note, the story of "jab mein choti si thi tab mere pitaji bohot bade shikari the" lives rent free in my head till this day 🤌
I could fight the entire world to defend this movie. A misunderstood masterpiece in my opinion. This isn't my favourite RGV movie but I've seen it more times than any other RGV movie.
What works -
1. RGV masterclass.
2. Absolute peak form of Urmila, Dutt, Paresh Rawal and Ashish Vidyarthi.
3. The OST.
4. Ths absolute balls on RGV to make a story like this work (it shouldn't but it does) and to top it off with beautifully shot scenery at remote locations.
the third and final(?) of ram gopal varma's increasingly eccentric variations on the "love on the run" theme, started with the thrown gauntlet of kshana kshanam, continued with the eccentric and likable anaganaga oka roju (a film with many pleasures, but i might say my personal favorite bhramanadam performance, which is no small feat), and brought into the hindi film world in daud, complete with sholay references.
there's diminishing returns here, and the attempt to mush the other two films into a final whole does disservice to both (must say that sanjay is no hero like venkatesh, and no everyman like the perpetually underrated j.d. chakravarthy). that rgv's corman like huckster pragmatist is always at odds with his restless technical…
Best thing about this Urmila's hot avatar and ofcourse performance of Paresh Rawal.
RGV peppers the movie with a lot of sarcastic one liners..The premise is a silly goose chase..the highlight is of course the songs,Paresh Rawal at his psychotic yet comical best and the delicious Urmila Matondkar :-)
Neeraj Vora and ARR embody the Atlas carrying this film on their shoulders. That frame of Neeraj Vora slowly turning to Sanjay Dutt while resting on his throne needs to be in Guggenheim.
"Gaon chahiye? Gaon lelo. Pahaad chahiye? Pahaad lelo. Khet chahiye? Khet lelo. Jungle chahiye?"
"Humein jungle nahi chahiye."
"Maine abhi tak diya nahi hai."
urmila is ridiculously hot in this film. I’m jealous of sanjay dutt for breathing the same air as her.
Urmila & Sanjay chemistry is an absolute highlight
Paresh Rawal underated
The Daud theme also goes stupid hard
Nothing cooler than Sanjay Dutt drinking coke in a fight scene!
