Ep 1-4 woaaaa this is kinda healing and fun
Ep 5-6 holy shit
a dark and unsettling look at korea’s military culture, in particular, the systematic abuse stemming from the deep-rooted power dynamics in place. also about the complicity of bystanders and how the higher-ups tend to conceal these problems. the last two episodes were so chilling and so powerful, not for the faint of heart.

K-GUST: The Drama Has Just Begun
Way more comedic than what I expected it to be. The thumbnail and a lot of the premise made this sound more like a serious show, and while there’s some drama and most of the show deals about the aftermath and consequences of these boot camps that turn a lot of these fragile individuals into soulless machines with them unable to handle the pressure and sociopathic bully, so you got plenty of people breaking down and turning into this Vincent D’Onofrio in Full Metal Jacket (Heroico also came to mind) or the vast majority desert, and you got people like our leads hunting down and bringing them back to pay for their “crimes.”

last two episodes: it felt like someone ripped my heart out, shattered it and stomped on it for hours. omfg.

(Season 2)
Not as iconic as season 1, maybe because season 1 hit close with the reality while season 2 is much more complex but still so well executed with more character development and some incredible raw acting performances. I love the bits of humour sprinkled in; not over done. Despite the heavy subject matter, the humour feels authentic.
The bullying is so upsetting, and that absolutely nothing changed after Suk Bong`s incident makes it even worse. And my god, all those cruel people sitting at the top of the military food chain, making bad decisions constantly, essentially encouraging horrendous events to take place again and again because they only care about reputation.
I feel conflicted regarding Kim Ru-ri. On…
Amaaazing. Plot and characters are immaculate. Portrays the cyclical nature of bullying that occurs in the Korean military. God, I'd runaway as well. A chilling quote that perfectly captures societies refusal to change is "Do you know what our cateens say on the bottom? It says 1953. They were used in the Korean war. They won't even change the canteens..."
You knew everything. You all just sat back and watched.
I am surprised how they organize the episodes with mixed bag of emotions. You will feel happy and warm and then angry, very angry, sad, and pure pain at the last two episodes. Every time I watch the series/movie with the same theme as this, I want to be a better person and help those who need my voice. I don't want to talk about technical aspects, OST, etc because they are already splendid.
jung haein was BRILLIANT in this drama.
