I love Duma, it's the perfect film to watch growing up. Having not seen this film since my early childhood, today's the day I finally rewatched it and I'm pleased to say I still love it after all these years. Whilst it doesn't hold up compared to more modern films, Duma, at its best, reminded me exactly why we loved movies as children: because they told stories like this, with images just as rhapsodically colourful and exciting and where ultimately a joy to watch. It's a crime what happened to this wonderful African wilderness movie in 2005. Beautifully directed by veteran director Carroll Ballard, Duma fell flat due to it's bad timing and abysmal marketing campaign. But that never stopped…
I LOVED this movie as a kid and watched a ton.
If cheetahs weren’t wild animals, I’d love to cuddle with all of them!
When I was a kid, I think I liked the trailer more than the actual film. Rewatching it now, this is one of my “all style, no substance” films. The cinematography is stunning. The score was good as well. I didn’t really care about the rest. I thought Xan was an asshole, especially to his mom.
Fly Away Home is a much better film from this director. Watch that instead.
DUMA is the perfect example of the kind of film that my website underexposedcinematictreasures.com was designed to represent. Because of Warner Bros.’s lack of faith in one of the best family films of 2005, it was released in very few theaters domestically (42 total – less than one per state) and even though some of the top movie reviewers in the country had nothing but praise for it (It currently holds a certified fresh score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes), not enough people seem to know of its existence. As I sat down to rewatch DUMA for the first time in over 15 years, I have to admit that I was a little worried that maybe I didn’t remember my…
This could have been a routine adventure but instead turns to be a
life changing tale about nature, human beings, relationships,a travel movie and our bond with animals. The final scenes are ❤️
I absolutely adore this film. A truly heart-warming and beautiful film.
Hey, that's pretty good.
The final film of Carroll Ballard - champion of resourceful children, unconventional family life and unabashedly emotional human/animal adventure - is a criminally underseen gem. Thrilling, poetic and moving, with a sensationally naturalistic performance from one-off child actor Alexander Michaletos.
How does this movie only have 55 reviews on here I loved it as a kid 😭
Duma is more than what one expects from a film aimed at a young audience. It's a rich, beautifully told epic in the vain of such legendary classics as Walkabout.
Duma is an excellent and entertaining film. Magnificent filming-locations. The film had a real look to offer to the audience: an affection between animals and humans.
Run you cheese looking feline, you!
