  A fervid ode to a dead father mythologised and memorialised, “Apa” conjures memories from the fragile boundary between fact and fabrication. An act of aggrandisement on one hand; an imprint of abandonment on another. Remembering what didn’t happen fills the temporal lapses of a time never spent together. It substitutes the irreplaceable emptiness of loss. Stories are weaved as a consolation of grief. Imagination reels as a projection of loving. There, the developing identity of the son in the years tying his childhood to adulthood wanders, seeing itself as the shadow of the departed, defining itself within the parameters of the life of the departed unlived.   Van ebben az igazán nagy klasszikusban három filmtörténeti tömegjelenet, amelyek minden bizonnyal a 2032-es Budapesti 12-be is biztosítják majd a bejutást (május elseje, lánchídi forgatás, villamos-tolás), plusz a magyar műfajfilm egyik legkiválóbb bunyójelenete (Ötvös Csöpi és a Kojot mellett) és egyik legszebb musical-betétje (a műtős balett), de ami a legjobban beég és legtöbbet elmond erről a Szabó-féle korabeli dilemmáról az emlékezés és álom, megörökítés és átrajzolás között, az három női közelkép (Tolnay Klári, Békés Rita, Sólyom Kati) a hozzájuk rendelt mondatokkal - hiába a sok új hullámos truváj, ez az igazi nouvelle vague, a női arcok vásznára vetített illúziók.   ez az egyetlen film ami meg tud nyugatni, az egyetlen aminek a vilagaba bekoltoznek (oke meg valami fellinibe talan), es az egyetlen ami irant gyermekkori rajongassal viseltetek (bar nem gyermekkoromban lattam eloszor), es ez nagy szo mert a cinizmusom, nagy elvarasaim es kritikus faszfejsegem aligha engedi meg hogy filmek irant tisztan rajongjak.

  Growing up in the absence of a parent often sticks with us well into adulthood. Even more so with a thinker and a creator.

  I too have often built up fantasies of absent people in my life and often my memories are unaware of what is real and what is my creation.
  I haven't moved on... and I'm scared I don't know how to.
  But it is fine that way too.

  what is it like to live in dictatorship era?

  Father adalah Pecahan memori yang dimiliki tako bence ketika ia mengingat bagaimana sosok sang ayah sebelum ia meninggalkan dunia. Dalam perspektifnya, sang ayah adalah seorang yang memiliki semangat juang akan keadilan dan sangat amat menyayanginya. Lalu bagaimana dengan pandangan orang-orang yang ayahnya kenal? Apakah berlawanan arah dengan pandangan dari sang anak?.
  
  Father adalah karya Istvan szabo yang mengulik kedalaman dua situasi yang berbeda. Dimana film ini memberikan dua peristiwa yang terjadi di hungaria, bersamaan dengan acara memecahkan kepingan puzzel Kenangan yang dimiliki sang main character untuk mengetahui apa yang sebenarnya yang terjadi dengan ayahnya. Pandangan orang-orang yang ayahnya kenali begitu acak dan pada akhirnya memporak-porandakan kenangan tako bence yang telah ia bangun sesaat ia masih seorang bocah. Father menelusuri bagaimana tindakan sang main character untuk memecahkan kepingan puzzel tentang ayahnya yang berserakan itu dengan alur yang perlahan-lahan memberikan sedikit demi sedikit memberikan jawaban yang diinginkan.

  Another film that exemplifies that
  a) the golden age of Hungarian cinema was the 1960s
  b) rich symbolism and beautiful cinematography don't have to mean slow storyline
  c) the traumas of WWII and the 1956 Revolution weighed on Hungarian society on a level that is hard to comprehend today.
