  I’m on a huge Cuba communism kick and this is the most comprehensive review of all that that I’ve seen yet. They really didn’t have to do major Huber like that. The minute Castro got into power he got on a power trip which is really disappointing. The original ideas are so important and pure but he just had to ruin it with his own ego. I swear socialism and communism have a bad reputation bc these men’s ego gets in the way.  If Celia or haydee was in charge they would’ve never fucked it up by taking political prisoners🙄 The whole bay of pigs shit would’ve never happened, The Cuban missile crisis wouldn’t have happened and there probably wouldn’t be a population of scorned Cubans in Miami voting republican to compensate for their losses.

  Victor Huggo Martin is quite good as Fidel Castro. What is captured best is Castro's near suicidal optimism, believing that his '26th of July Movement' guerilla band has any hope of overthrowing the Batista regime. This being an English language production, you're going to get an obvious political bent, but all and all it is still pretty well rounded. There are some good moments of Fidel interacting with the peasantry as he troops through the countryside, his ragtag army barely hanging on. The Castro / Celia Sanchez relationship is portrayed subtly enough, until she makes a scolding speech on her deathbed.
