There’s something surreal about seeing yourself on screen. I’m not talking about seeing yourself represented in the abstract like fictionalized stories present, where you see bits of yourself through the characters on screen.
I’m talking about seeing streets you’ve walked down and buildings you’ve been in featured in a high profile film.
I’m talking about a film directly lifting from your childhood and throwing it right back at you in full HD.
I was raised outside of Kansas City (I go into Lees Summit quite often actually). If we’re talking about movies that hit close to home I can’t think of a better example.
And there’s nothing like a good documentary for some good self-reflection.
Maybe good is too generous…
