I would do anything to live in this movie definitely the best slasher ever made.
All these low ratings and I just don’t know what’s going on because I’ve loved this one ever since it came out!
This is basically a slasher to showcase some awesome practical effects and it excels at that! Sure the story is full of plot holes and doesn’t make a lot of sense but isn’t that most slashers? Spoiler alert, it is. I kinda love Bobbi Sue Luther’s final girl almost as much as I love the name Bobbi Sue Luther and it’s a shame she didn’t return for the sequel. And Chromeskull is a scary slasher villain, y’all. Truth. Real Talk. Honesty.
Also, this is the movie where me and every other attentive gay realized that Kevin Gage has become…
Pretty realistic gore porn about a streamer who opts to apply chrome plating to his face as a means of enhancing his chances of making new friends.
This is absurd; a short sequence I saw on Twitter prompted me to check this out, and it did not disappoint. It exists primarily to display some ludicrously gory practical work and to include as many detailed and nasty killings as possible. It's ridiculous, yet demented in the greatest manner slashers should be. Good time.
gore porn : the movie
This is a tough one. On the one hand, there is so much “stupid” going on (I get that characters in slasher flicks typically make bad decisions and that’s what the slasher feeds off of, but I don’t have to LIKE it). On the other hand, I really dig the gory kills and the oddball bad guy. “Chromeskull” (what legit slasher gives himself a handle, yet another misstep) is a mix of Jason with his mute, intimidating style, The Tall Man with his affinity for morgues and fashion sense, and Dr. Phibes with his mask and self-healing skills.
The acting is a huge mixed bag. I always love seeing Sean Whalen, and Lena “Circei Lannister” Headley doing a southern accent…
My 900th film this year.
,,Laid to Rest’’ is another slasher that feels similar to the ,,Terrifier’’ films. Even if it was released beforehand.
The plot and acting were on a low level but somehow ok enough (for this kind of film). If you watch a slasher film you anyway should mainly come for the kills and some stupid fun.
It was great to see actress Lena Headey again. I do love her since ,,Game of Thrones’’.
The killer looked cool with his chrome skull mask, the two big knives and the black suit. All kills were brutal and well made with fantastic and top tier gore effects. I also liked the gritty and dark atmosphere.
In conclusion ,,Laid to Rest’’ isn’t by any means a great slasher flick, but it should be still interesting and engaging enough for fans. Plus there is a brutal killer and excellent gore effects to be seen.
Next up: ,,ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 2’’
I actually watched the sequel first, and I thought I reviewed it, but I was wrong.
Chromeskull is an underrated killer. He has an awesome mask, drives a car like he took driving lessons from Michael Myers, and he’s demented as hell. He gives zero fucks. He simply loves to film while he kills. We don’t get an explanation on why he does what he does, and in many ways, it makes him more scary and freaky. Few slasher killers can actually freak me out, but Chromeskull can. He’s a Poor Man’s Collector.
We also have a director with a background in practice effects makeup. Robert Hall is a master in special effects. The budget is small, but the kills…
Hooptober VIII: The Well’s Not Dry Just Yet
Bonus
Probably the only time someone’s been killed with canned tire inflator. As it turns out, it’s one hell of a way to murder someone.
Chromeskull is a bonafide icon in my books. That amazing chrome mask, the gaudy knives he uses, the smug aura around him, and his creativity with his kills. He’s a real G.
The gore in this is something to behold. It’s so wet and graphic and utterly sick! That knife to the skull was brutal! Then him fishing it out with all the sticky matter clinging to the knife, uff what a kill. All the kills are nice and graphic and it’s clear the director worked with practical effects because this film is a showcase for them.
This was a downright savage and incredibly well-crafted slasher, I can’t wait until I see the sequel.
"He wants to make me dead"
I've seen Laid to Rest getting a lot of praise, and I absolutely love 2000s slashers, but this really just didn't click with me. The brutal kills and gory practical effects are extremely well done, some of the best of the 2000s, but other than that the characters, cinematography, music and pretty much everything else is just really bland.
Chromeskull is an alright villain, but he feels like what a 13 year old thinks is cool, and his matching license plate and whole schtick just feels really over-the-top, and while I don't mind it, he isn't particularly a well written character at all, but he looks cool and gets the job done.
Overall just…
Not much of a story here, mainly the characters running around in circles but still enjoyed for the gnarly, gory kills.
5.7/10
Sometimes after a long day you just want to sit down, have a cigarette, relax, and enjoy a quality piece of art. And other times you really just want to see someone take a comically large Rambo knife to the head and have their face bounce off some exterior siding with a loud and resounding wet thwack. High pitched and rowdy late night romp that never takes itself too serious and throws around buckets of gore with all the enthusiastic aplomb of a meat packing cafeteria worker. So it's no Edward Hopper, but the canvas it paints is just as memorable for it's simplicity and eye glazing amounts of lighthearted viscera. Today was a long day.
