This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
wish I could give this a 5/5, and honestly, luc besson will never top this movie, which is actually pretty sad given how hard the watch was.
It started pretty well, I really liked the characters and the actors were SPOT ON. The scenes, the aesthetic of the movie, everything was screaming Luc Besson and it was perfect until it got overshadowed by the weird sexual tension between Matilda (a child) and Leon (a grown ass man).
I get what they tried to do, with the whole “Matilda was a kid who was forced to grow up too soon,” but her overall sexualization made it creepy and gross. They were trying to talk about an issue by contributing to it.

This could've banged if the director made it fatherly love instead of the weird pedo shit

I rlly like this movie but its kind if hard to ignore the fact that 12 Yr old Natalie Portman is confessing her love to a whole ass MAN and asking him to have sex w her. Whoever thought that was a good idea is clapped. Try to ignore it (you can't) because I did actually rlly like it as a movie

This is for Mathilda <3
Young Nathalie Portman is perfect as the effervescent Mathilda who explodes from the rubble of her troubled upbringing.
She sees herself as tough and already fully grown, but beneath her charming boldness is a young girl, alone and desperately looking to be loved. Anyone who has been or known a teenage girl can empathise with this inner conflict, which is painfully often taken advantage of.
An unlikely friend, Leon treats Mathilda with the respect she demands and she kindness she deserves. There is an innocence and gentleness beneath his tough exterior which thwarts our preconceived notions. Mathilda can passionately play out her misguided emotions and dazzle with her disarming toughness, while Leon manages to neither…
