A realistically executed biopic that does move at a slow pace with few drags, yet wins you over as its heart n soul is at the right place. Priyadarshi surprises with his performance, breathing life into his character as the troubled and helpless. It does address the plight of women in the handloom industry well, making the final moment of triumph all the more heartwarming and moving.
1 year of MALLESHAM: "Masthu" (Amazing)! "Teri Asu ki kahaani sun kar ye A̶b̶d̶u̶l̶ Prateek ki aankhon mein bhi aansoo aa gaye re!" (transl. After listening to your story of Asu Machine, my eyes got tears [aansoo] too!)
As Mallesham who decided to ease the shoulder pain of his Mother, Priyadarshi shouldered the film from the word go by inventing a new side to his Acting in the process of inventing Asu Machine! Be it Brahmi or MS or Sunil etc, the thing with established "comedians" doing emotional roles is that I'm so habituated to laughing at their scenes or for that matter their very appearance on screen, so much so that tears roll out instantly when I see them…
One of the best Telugu films you'll ever see. This was a much-needed assortment for Pulikonda to exhibit his talent. Begging y'all to watch this rn!
I want to start by saying that this has some of the best acting all year. Ananya Nagalla is one of the freshest, most beautiful talents to grace Tollywood screens. I thought she was magical. And so are Priyadarshi and Jhansi, in roles of a lifetime. Priyadarshi seriously needs to lead more films. He's exceptional.
Though structurally repetitive in its final portions, 'Mallesham' is an immaculately 'woven' emotional tale that moved me to tears in its quieter, more contained moments. Would love people to go out and support this. It very much deserves it. Even the way the leads' shared scenes are framed is so effortlessly powerful. Such striking, memorable compositions.
Had an amazing start to 2021 by watching this
Mallesham's father : ee machine gatra nuvve seyyali etra
Mallesham : Avunu, nene seyyali endhukante mana kastam inkevadiki thelvadhu, cheppinaa arthamkaadhu ganuka.
The best biopic I ever seen.
Inspiring story with good performances.
I get the struggle and everything that comes with trying to have a life and work tirelessly towards your passion but the entire screenplay is rigged with inconsistent writing and manipulative melodrama which dilutes the entire thing down to disappointment.
Bro struggled more than ananya panday can in her whole life
while I appreciate the sentiment of the struggles and hardships these villagers went through, the script did the story and the main character no justice. Some people tend to like these kind of films for the emotion. But when you look at it from a narrative perspective, it’s uneventful, inconsistent, melodramatic and the screenplay is plagued with repetition. I honestly can recap everything that happened in that film in 5 sentences without missing anything major. That’s how thin that plot was. Waste of time.
1.5 stars for the actors, music and cinematography.
The film that Padman wished it was! A rare biopic in Indian cinema that sublimely shows the triumph of the human spirit. Terrific performances from the cast makes this a must watch.
Simple but inspiring and an immensely satisfying film.
It was nice seeing Priyadarshi in a character-driven role. Jhansi was a pleasant surprise. But I have to say the kids in the beginning of the film were such a pleasure to watch - raw/natural talent! And how can I forget, everyone's Telangana accents were on point - especially the grandma with the fan, hilarious!
It's nice seeing these types of stories brought to screen with talented actors/filmmakers, and I hope to see more in the future.
