evil is insidious, ostentatious and weird. hunger is hunger. sri devi is sri devi.
Can we Sacrifice Boney Kapoor and bring back Sridevi, please!
Earlier, we had Mogambo functioning from outside India to take over the country. Today... the less I say, the better.
Everything in this movie is pretty much representative of what a good Bollywood entertainer should be, from the wonderful kids storyline to the richly textured villain who still manages to give goosebumps after all these years. I hope we as a society never forget Amrish Puri's contributions to making our lives better. Also, the comedy was spot on and rarely missed— Sridevi, Satish Kaushik and Anil Kapoor were clearly at the top of their games for this one. And then there are the songs, which have proven themselves to be evergreen (well, except the unnecessary blackface in 'Hawa Hawai' of…
I think I just watched one of the greatest musical sci-fi romantic-comedy action epics ever.
Exuding heart, character and pure emotive momentum wrapped up in family friendly ridiculousness, Mr. India is practically perfect. There are a bunch of plot holes and an unnecessarily dark choice made near the end of the film, but almost all that is clunky and ludicrous about this movie is weighed in balance with the tremendous comedy and the richness of character. Accepting of its contrivances, its melodrama and its cliched bad guys, Mr. India is three hours of unimaginably good entertainment. A story about unconditional goodness embedded in the heart of an every-man and backed by the spirit of those he stands loyal to, Mr. India also uses satire to make a statement of subtle substance that harmonises with spectacle, making for a film that absolutely everyone should see. A personal favourite.
you know what… watching sridevi eat fruits out of her hat and thrashing dudes with a whip actually had such an impact on my life like i’m not even kidding?? this is such a classic
Better than every MCU film if only for MOGAMBO
This is charming, silly, wildly uneven, occasionally problematic movie, and I could spend thousands of words breaking that all down for you...
...or I could just tell you that there's a sequence in the middle of it where Sridevi decides to help out a friend who needs money, and does so by going to gamble at the bad guy casino while inexplicably disguised as Charlie Chaplin, and when a fight inevitably breaks out she never breaks character, battling the bad guys (assisted by the invisible hero) with vaudevillian Chaplin schtick.
Which is all you need to know, really.
Yet again Sridevi steals a whole movie (though Amrish Puri and his outfit and his wig and his pit of boiling acid and his catchphrase at least give her a run for her money this time).
sridevi eating the grapes off of her fruit hat > the bible
Mogambo was actually a fashion icon?? The high heeled cowboy boots, the gold embroidery, the wig??!! No insta baddie compares
