Mystics - Gangster, Geister und ihr Meister
If you haven't seen the fabulous comedy Waking Ned Devine, see that movie:) It's a great movie to watch for Saint Patrick's Day!
This movie co-stars David Kelly (Michael O' Sullivan from Waking Ned Devine, but is far less effective as a coherent comedy (but may still be entertaining IF you are a fan of Kelly).
The plot herein revolves around Kelly and his con-artist partner (Milo O' Shea). Together they fleece folks by 'conducting' séances with dead individuals at the paying request of bereaved families. When a bereaved widow of a gangster seeks their services things spiral out of control. Then this movie becomes a round robin with Kelly and his partner trying not to run afoul of two crime families and the police.
6.25/10
If interested in some lesser known Irish-themed movies have a look at my list of decent to very good (non-depressing & non-political) Irish-themed movies.
Taking advantage of grieving families, two elderly men run a successful operation where they pretend to communicate with the dead - something that has drastic consequences when one day they actually make contact in this Irish comedy. Milo O'Shea and especially David Kelly (as the conduit) are both excellent as the crafty con men in question and the early scenes of them fleecing others are fun. The film gets a lot less interesting with the introduction of the fantasy angle. Rather than focus on how cunning O'Shea and Kelly are, the project quickly becomes a less appealing heist drama with a dead mobster using them to tell their family where they have stashed some loot that needs to be recovered. The two leads certainly keep the film chugging along, but this no Ghost, nor is it anywhere near as funny as it perhaps could have been.
