punches & moments of release didn’t land for me—the swings are there but it’s kind of like being blindfolded and trying to hit a piñata and being a couple inches off.
the one thing that started to crack the paper shell for me was this moment ella thought she lost charlie and after a few seconds of panic, finds out he already went back to the car. but she gets in the passenger’s seat and says nothing, expresses no relief or frustration, doesn’t ask any questions. everything is left unspoken, to the extent where no care ever breaks through. everything hangs by a string—waiting for the sign that someone might come along and save it before the bat starts to make contact.
