  A 90's ultra indie post Tarantino riff on Dog Day Afternoon but with a pair of 13 year olds. It's absolutely as grating as a pair of 13 year olds speaking in 90's wannabe Tarantinoisms sounds like, but to their credit the kids are trying their best. I feel like the intentions here where good, as there was an attempt at trying to say something about millennials having a hopeless future, which to the film's credit turned out incredibly accurate.

  I definitely thought it's an overall ok experience but at some points it turns pretty grating. Thankfully every time it turns annoying, the film makers remember to cut to Burt Reynolds as the worlds angriest hostage negotiator, he's absolutely hilarious…

  It's like if Harmony Korine and Michael Haneke had a baby. So of course it's a fantastic film about youth in the United States and the perversity of mass media.

  The wheelchair guy nails it: "these kids are the symptom, not the cause."

  Blaming the kids for being obnoxious misses the point. "The dialogue is trying so hard to be cool." No, the kids are trying so hard to be cool. Stevie's just impersonating what he's been taught by media. There's more to the cocktail than just "video games make kids violent", though. I don't think that's the point either.

  A recurring motif is Stevie being unable to breathe. He's got asthma and he's also living in the smog-choked city…

  found a copy of pups on dvd at the bottom of the shelf at the thrift store I work at. intrigued by never seeing or hearing about this film before and its indie looking cover I decided to purchase it. 

  the cinematography is interesting, as many shots are long takes, panning, circling around just like the matter of the storyline, the situation, the repeated loop of Stevie and Bender talking, many forms of symbolism through the way of filming itself that you don’t see much of in todays films. stevie & rockys relationship is unlike no other I’ve seen in indie films. 

  definitely underrated, evokes an a24 feel storyline wise, where it’s up to interpretation. yes it felt like it was to long but I guess it coinsided with the storyline. it deserved more recognition.

  Laughable acting and camera work, plot makes no sense. This film has given me a headache and a lot lof laughs, both from being a bad film. Nice.

  Que película. Un niño de 13 años se encuentra una pistola en el cuarto de su mamá y en un impulso camino a la escuela decide robar un banco junto a su novia. Lo que más atrapa no es sólo eso, las actuaciones de los protagonistas -aka Stevie y Rocky- son espectaculares y los movimientos de cámara son para llorar de lo bien hechos que están, el ritmo nunca cae y siempre hay algo que te mantiene enganchado y a la espera. Ah, y por ahí también anda Burt Reynolds

  
   Lo mejor de todo es que la pueden encontrar en YouTube subtitulada y toda la cosa.

  How did I not watch this yet?

  I'm just gonna be honest here cos I'm Sunday night drunk… Mischa is just physical perfection in this. Like Anna Paquin in Fly Away Home they captured her at the exact split second between girl and woman. It's Dog Day Afternoon with kids and that's cool too cos it was made before everything real and similar. It doesn't just even have Mischa it has Burt f-in Reynolds! But if you're not here for Mischa you're stupid. Yeh I probably have a lot more thoughts about this but it's Sunday and it doesn't matter, god, it's all about tween Mischa right now.

  Stevie and Rocky are strangely relatable and while some of the dialogue does tend to be a little long winded at times they paint a good portrait of the sickness of American society and the hopelessness and despair of Generation X. Kurt Loder is a condescending prick but Burt Reynolds casually rattling off an anecdotal story about shitting in some guys shoes is a marvelous piece of cinema, chefs kiss.
