A well structured vigilante thriller from ARM, that gets set against the flawed system and corruption within it. Despite of commercial compromises and few blown out of proportion sequences, the movie manages to stay suspenseful and entertaining right through. Even after all these years, many of its scenes remain iconic; especially the hospital sequence and its sharp dialogues. A solid watch.
Rest in peace Captain 💔
This is the film that introduced me to him, so I thought it was time I rewatched it. This was really AR Murugadoss' take on the Shankar vigilante template, and it excels for the most part. There are aspects that haven't aged well, but there are some brilliantly written sequences like the hospital scene in the first half that still make an impact. It's quite sad that many themes covered in this film decades later are still prevalent - for example the building collapsing in the flashback reminded of this year's 'Maaveeran', so it's a shame corruption is still an ongoing issue.
The star of the show is undoubtedly Vijayakanth himself, and I was surprised…
The hospital scene.
"ஒரு மனுஷன் பிரியும் போது தாய் அழுதா அவன் ஒரு நல்ல மகன், அவனோட புள்ளைங்க அழுதா அவன் நல்ல தகப்பன், அவன் கூட பொறந்தவங்க அழுதா அவன் நல்ல சகோதரன், அவன் பிரிவுக்காக நாடே அழுதா அவர் ஒரு நல்ல தலைவன்.. உனக்காக இந்த நாடே அழுவுதப்பா"
Perfect dialogue for captain. Rest easy now.❤️
Can't believe that he is no more...💔
Adieu, captain!❤️
hospital scene slayed fr
my fondest memory of vijayakanth of his modern films, and it's a fine masala of its times, all the trademark speeches and shankar-esque politics of corruption and bribery in india paired with the usual vigilante justice. i forgot about how much it gave to tamil cine culture, not just the memes (''zoom pannu! nooo!!'' or ''ennakke paarkanum pole iruku'') but iconic moments such as the entire hospital sequence with the dead body. it's the scene that has stayed in my mind the most, and the first thing i associate with vijayakanth actually. something something dignity in death (...or illness), that should be afforded, yet, one he, the actor, was denied by his immediate circle in his final years, dragged incessantly…
GOAT of all GOATs. Murugadoss na could never recreate anything like this with anybody else other than cap. I'd love to be proven wrong.
Bring me back my peak Murugadoss 😭
The last 30minutes is the soul & meaning of the movie. ARM said that subtly strong.
Captain's acting supremacy 🥹🔥
O' Captain, My Captain ❤️
"UNAKAGA ORU OORAE ALUVUDU YA "
