Synopsis
Animated short of a Cowboys' psychedelic Odyssey.
Directed by Andreas Hykade
Animated short of a Cowboys' psychedelic Odyssey.
An animated black and white western with lots of vaginas, boobs, and other sexual imagery, and I frankly know of no reason why not all westerns should be like this.
Part of my effort to watch at least one short film per day. Here is the list I am currently working through, with a random number generator determining the film each day. I will take recommendations for everything that's 40 minutes max.
Features some gorgeous, woodcut-looking animation and great, great sound. Kind of thing that is better for not trying to make total sense.
Sure it was all very sex-obsessed, but it kind of works given the vaguely Western environment. It’s a world seen through the eyes of two cowboys after all.
A gem of a thing, well worth your 15 minutes.
For some reason our movie isn’t in letterboxd but it’s the best fucking movie I’ve ever seen in my life
Interesting and somewhat trippy short animated film, but felt like it went on a bit long.

Very strange Old West piece that echoes with shades of Gerald Scarfe and Burgess, as we follow an unconfident cowboy in what seems like a whorehouse outpost.
This is the second of Hykade's trilogy, and again we see a young man confronting a vision of the world that grotesquely objectifies women. He must navigate his own belief system and become his own man.
The piece is a tough pill to swallow as it's tone isn't really understood until the end - up until then, it's not entirely clear if this vision is a celebration or a critique. But like the title says, this burning ring of fire is a vision of hell and he must save himself.
This is the most oddly sexual short film you'll probably ever see, and I feel that underneath its beautiful animation is a great commentary on sexual relationships, love, and attraction.
The art style and the way it's presented reminds me of a short film or cutscene that I would've watched on my 3DS back in the day.
Watching this film, featuring stylistically animated titted balloons and hypnotizing vaginas, in a waiting room with an old lady beside me, was truly an experience.
The music used is badass, and the foley sounds are some of the best I've heard in a short and suit it super well. The man in black has an awesome character design— it's a pity he's not…
Me watching this short while knowing nothing about it:
Expectation: 🤠🤠
Reality: 👁 👄 👁
It’s as mesmerizing on my dozenth watch as it was the first. For all of its extremely suggestive imagery it also resists a 1:1 interpretation of said images, proving once again that superficiality is the strength of this medium, and animation its most dependent form on that superficial mastery.
