Tom: I like girls
*loud incorrect buzzer*
what a captivating web, i lost myself in every single episode. works really well as a series, did not feel like was ever stretching itself. weirdly riveting in how it walks you through every detail of every action with little to no music, a stone-cold performance, and barely any camera movement. i was enthralled. so many scenes where not a word is said in like 20 minutes but you don’t notice at all. andrew scott delivers one of the best portrayals of a psychopath that i’ve seen in years. so easy to mess up that kinda thing but he’s subtle enough to sell it. the delivery of “i like girls!” was the moment i realized this was a home run. haven’t seen the other ripley stuff, keep that in mind. i’m gonna get on it this week. hugo succession jump scare. unlike a lot of netflix slop i see myself coming back to this one someday 💍
couldve been more gay
Ripley vs. The many flights of stairs in Europe
andrew scott is just phenomenal in everything he's in
An exceptional television program made by people who spent their careers making movies.
Oh to be a cat in Italy watching a sharply dressed Andrew Scott go up and down stairs all day and night.
This whole project is botched — it’s a lifeless adaptation that squanders the vibrancy and magnetism inherent to its source material, and stretches itself thin to the point of tedium.
There’s an elephant in the room and that’s 1999s The Talented Mr. Ripley. Take just the first episode as an example. Are we, as an audience, expected to be captivated by 49 minutes of what was 12 charisma-oozing-minutes in a film that everyone and their mother (especially mine) has seen a hundred times? Comparison may be the thief of joy but asking us not to compare this to one of the most iconic films of the 90s is just… unfair. I know this is a completely different interpretation of the material…
Love to see Andrew Scott back in his villain phase.
WHERE. IS. THE. BATHTUB. SCENE.
Nobody does be gay do crime like Andrew Scott
if 1999's "the talented mr. ripley" movie didn't exist, then ripley the series would be incredible. but it's impossible not to compare the two:
andrew scott is incredibly talented but far too old to play tom ripley.
johnny flynn has no personality and does not capture the magnetic charm of dickie greenleaf.
dakota fanning's marge has absolutely no depth.
also, eliot is incredibly miscast as freddie. so boring.
the editing leaves a lot to be desired, im sure that is a netflix problem and not a showtime problem.
at first i thought the noir style would be cool, but this really deserves to be in color. tom is attracted to the beauty of dickie's life - the fashion, the beaches,…
