A story of of the captain of an oil tanker during World War II, Captain Bart Manson, who rescues Katherine Hall when her ship is sunk by a German U-boat.
Lothar Mendes’s drama in which an oil-tanker captain (Edward G. Robinson) collects a shipwrecked woman (Lynn Bari) and concern in the Second World War Gulf of Mexico.
The story concerns Oil-tanker Captain Bart Manson (Edward G. Robinson) who saves Kathie Hall (Lynn Bari) when her boat is sunk by a U-boat and he ends up wedding her. After his ship is sunk and she is accused because she has no ID, Bart attempts to clear her of the charge and finds out that his first mate, Fred Adamson (Victor McLaglen), is a German agent.
Edward G. Robinson gives a good performance in his role as the oil-tanker captain who is a likeable character because of what he does and what…
Ship captain Edward G. Robinson having to deal with Nazi snitches. Tampico (1944) is not a amazing war related movie, but it has it's moments, especially when Lynn Bari was involved. The mystique surrounding her was clearly what held this movie afloat, even if the speculation was the opposite regarding the ships in this film.
I was drawn into the story from the start. It was done well with a great cast. I think Lynn Bari was an underrated actress.
A somewhat uneven mix of spy, war drama and romance about a captain who should maybe have heeded more closely his own advice to his sailors to beware of those damsels in the ports: The walls have ears etc etc etc... Interesting look at the bros before hos stance.
made me like the name Bart again
