That very Italian subgenre the political erotic drama. As attentive to its power and exploitation games as willing to use them for as much nudity as possible, I've liked director Samperi earlier giallo Kill the Fatted Calf and Roast It, but this one is watchable but pretty dull.
Some weird twisted 80s italian erotica. Confusing but interesting.
Such a strange movie. It's a period drama with heavy political elements, interwoven with a bored housewife's sexcapades. There is a real weight and seriousness given to the dramatic parts, and the "sexy" parts are decidedly trashy and borderline explicit. It is almost like the movie has an identity crisis; it can't decide what it wants to be.
I must confess that I only searched this out because of Florence Guérin. I loved her in Bizarre/ Profumo and was curious what else she had done. That movie knew exactly what it wanted to convey and took its trashiness to a whole new level. I must say, Guérin is amazing here as well.
La Bonne doesn't work as a drama and neither does it as an erotic story.
Only for fans of Guérin, of which by my estimation, there must be at least a few dozen!
A classic erotica with political drama mixed in that brings in the allure of a bored housewife with too much time on her hands. You'd think she keeps them to herself but women have needs.
The story seems to be lost and found throughout.

My New Year's resolution was to watch more perverted foreign movies, so I'm off to a good start.
An erotic drama that is trying to say something about the bourgeoisie and the poor (it takes place in Italy while the 1956 Hungarian Revolution plays out on TVs and radios), but has seemingly lost a lot of footage. 82 minutes cuts a lot of necessary material that would flesh out the political drama and the growing relationship between Florence Guérin and Trine Michelsen (R.I.P.)
Nevertheless, the sexual push and pull between Guérin and Michelsen is legitimately sexy. Guérin's rich wife being taught the simple (and sensuous) pleasures of life by poor maid Michelsen would work better without all of the talk…
This probably shouldn't matter in a movie like this, but I was so confused. The storytelling was very disjointed, going from one choice to the next with seemingly no reason. Beautiful women, but a confounding watch.
