Vulgar is about a man who is a children's clown but has not been getting much luck lately. He lives in a cheap apartment which he can't even afford. Bums are constantly sleeping in his run down car and crashing on his lawn. He has a nagging mother who lives in a nursing home, and his best friend is a moocher. One day he comes up with the idea to become a bachelor clown.

This is the most fucked up Kevin Smith movie that wasn't made by Kevin Smith.
Kevin Smith acts in this and he produced it through his studio, but didn't write or direct this movie. One of his buddies did, Bryan Johnson, but when you look at the cast filled with View-Askew darlings like Jason Mewes and Brian O'Halloran, you'd think otherwise. Cast aside, this is much more graphic and "vulgar" than anything Kevin Smith could have tried to make.

This was a fucking weird movie, but i liked it a lot. Super low budget, but it works. Best clown rape/revenge comedy ever.

It's not quite as dope as the poster.
But still it's a pretty powerful character study of a clown, who gets raped by some hicks and seeks out revenge.
It's a good time if you are into that sort of thing.
Extremely glad to know that the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 of clown trauma movies still holds up under adult eyes.
Darkest askew-niverse film for sure, but damn this one was good! So grimy and low budget that despite releasing in 2000, you could easily mistake it for something from the 80's - but somehow that actually enhances the film and all it's foul, disturbing glory.
Brian O'Halloran is GREAT in this. One scene actually brought me close to tears because of how well he performed it. His acting might feel a little wooden in more casual scenes, but when shit gets serious, he puts his fuckin heart into it.
Also I love that this had a happy ending! I was worried it was gonna be a soul crusher, but I was wrong 🥺😭🤍

Very potent bad vibes cinema. I somehow watched this before ever seeing a Kevin Smith film.
After surprisingly enjoying Clerks 3, I decided to go through the handful of Kevin Smith projects that I haven’t seen before. This led me to Vulgar, the only film directed by Bryan Johnson.
The nicest thing I can say about this film is that (call me crazy) I do think Bryan Johnson shows off some chops as a filmmaker here, at least by “exploitation movie” standards. All the dramatic scenes are handled very well, & Brian O'Halloran gives the best performance of his career. He actually shows off some range which he doesn’t get to show off that much in the View Askew films.
