A very quiet, unassuming youth drama, Nami (or Wave) is stylistically self assured, to the point where 90% of the shots are static frames, and most interactions are small, muted conversations. In essence, this is a hangout film, between two women and a man, as well as the rogue element of the man's friend on the run from a debt collector.
This unfolds slowly. Very slowly, to the point where even an act of violence towards the end of the story is muted to the point where the characters indifferent reaction feels much in tune with the rest of the film. Due to the language barrier, it's hard to discern how…

It failed to completely convince me but this is another prime example of detached y2k young-lives-going-nowhere jp cinema. It could've used a better ending and it really underused the music that complemented those vibes so well.
