Synopsis
A profound and powerful experimental, personal film of one woman's despair, rage and exhibitionism; a baroque fugue of identity chanting growing from women's pain to a holistic, self-healing naming ritual.

Small little puzzle box of a film Barbara Hammer has made here. We contain multitudes of emotions, one way to look at it. We're all trapped in / wrapped up in ourselves and our perception is another thought I had.
The imagery of children seems to imply we all have a child within us, and never advance all that much emotionally.
This film appears to be made earlier than Dyketactics, but Barbara Hammer's soundtrack here is way more complex, I would have thought this would have been after Dyketactics.
There's probably artist statements and whatnot that explain the film more, but I'm not a big intellectual and don't really wanna read that stuff.
"These are the children I'm happy not to have." Absolute queen

THIS IS MY PAIN
Incredibly sprawling and ambitious wackass short that’s at its best when Hammer is going around terrorizing people.
My first of Hammer's films after having so badly to watch them, previously unavailable due to their obscurity (even if she is regarded as among the best experimental filmmakers, feminist filmmakers, etc.); managing to find it here.
I don't love everything that Hammer's doing, to be totally honest I don't even actively like it, but there's a lot to love, respect, and appreciate in what she's doing. With frequent chants of "I" and "this is my exhibitionism", "this is my anger", "this is my pain", etc. she is violently asserting her own, and by extension women's, right(s) to exist in each and every form -- that their characters are made up of so much and that they are free to do whatever they want with themselves ("these are the children I'm glad I don't have"). Punchy and radical.
what
great short which conveys a variety of emotions
As I delve into these short films by Barbara Hammer, I’m struck by the ease that I can watch these as a male. But I also feel discomfort in knowing as part of the white patriarchal society, I contributed to her discomfort and eventual rage about who she was as a person viewed in our society.
A bold and striking exploration of the director's sense of self that features the director dual-wielding samurai swords while wearing a basketball over her head.
Like I wasn't going to love this.
I didnt watch this because i could not find it anywhere just posting review in hopes someone will tell me where its hiding thanks
“this is my childhood. this is my exhibitionism. these are the children i’m happy not to have. this is my mother. this is my anger. this is my pain. this is my comfort. this is my transportation.”
cinema has always been queer, weird and messy and i love that
I need to watch this high
