Zelary, a 2003 Academy Award nominee as best foreign film, presents a stirring portrait of everyday life in Czechoslovakia during the Nazi occupation. In 1943, Eliska (Anna Geislerova) works as a nurse in a Prague hospital while studying to be a physician. Richard (Ivan Trojan), her lover, a surgeon, and Slavek (Jan Hrusinsky), another doctor, enlist Eliska in anti-Nazi activities. When their actions are discovered by the Gestapo, Slavek is killed, and Richard flees the country. Eliska then leaves Prague with Joza (Gyogy Cserhalmi), a patient recovering from a mishap at a sawmill, to journey to his remote mountain…
