This film was adapted from two works by Czech novelist Květa Legátová: "Želary," a collection of short stories published in 2001, and her 2002 novel, "Jozova Hanule." It is directed by Ondřej Trojan and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.

An emotional rollercoaster… what about AZOR??!?!
World War II-related, but not in a way that makes it a downer throughout, beautifully shot, and way too long. I believe they made this kind of movie in laboratories in the 90s and early 2000s to get Oscar nominations for Best Foreign Language Film, and at least in this case, they succeeded.
this has to be one of the most beautiful (slash heartbreaking) czech films.

Dengan identitas barunya Eliska musti beradaptasi bahkan difitnah seorang bajingan desa. Kehidupannya dibayang-bayangi Nazi.
Dengan naskah yang terasa cair, Zelary terasa lambat dengan durasi 150 menit. Memang tidak banyak letupan drama dari tokohnya dan tokoh pendukung di desa yang sebagian besar menyokong cerita. Seperti kita sendiri yang asing hidup bersama warga dusun dan kita musti dipaksa menjalankan adat.

this film was genuinely incredible. watching in in a theatre of my friends was fantastic, sharing the emotional experiences and giggling!! however. there was a point where i stopped giggling. i cried for the last 45 minutes and couldn’t stop until we finished the BTS film.
the colors were absolutely gorgeous and the emotional highs and lows were so powerful. i genuinely sobbed + i could not control my laughter. joza is dream man. written by a woman.

This story of a Czech nurse who has to go into hiding because of her involvement in the resistance trods fairly familiar territory. It's unique that she has to marry a farmer in a small mountain town named Želary, but once there, the story covers the same ground. To that end, the film works as long as we care about the characters, and I did, but there are a lot of characters and it's as if each is just there for various lessons to be learned as our nurse learns to love her farmer.
The film overstays its welcome, but it's fine. The film works. I enjoyed it well enough. But it's also one of many WWII films that just blend together and become forgettable.
