Cute! This is a fun companion piece to The Mousetrap and Agatha Christie's work in general. My roommate and I are big Christie fans so we watched this together and had a blast. My favorite part was getting to see actors like Daniel Oyelowo and Saoirse Ronan who are typically typecast in dramatic Oscar roles get to play really silly characters. They absolutely crush and I hope to see them do it again! Can't say the same for Sam Rockwell. He's the straight man in this comedy, but even with that in mind they didn't give him enough to do.

Truly loved the performances (audibly gasped when John Lithgow and Brendan Fraser appeared more than halfway into the movie) and Scorsese's direction, but I don't think Eric Roth does it for me. He's like our living resident sprawling epic screenwriter, but between this, Dune, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and most notably Forrest Gump I find his writing frustratingly presentational. That is to say that I rarely find myself wanting to know what happens next scene-to-scene because he's more or less already told us. I was truly not bored once in this near 3.5 hour movie, but I also never leaned forward.

I found this profoundly moving in a way I did not expect, but rather than trying to channel that here I just need to say that i nearly cried laughing as soon as I realized Sammy’s sister was the Tammy Craps girl, I DID cry laughing at the casting choice for John Ford, and I also cried along the way for various other reasons. It’s like if Paul McCartney dropped another White Album.
