Somewhere within the film there was a focused element that could have served as our narrative drive for this wacky Bong hit. If you know Bong Joon Ho by this point in time, this movie is a send up of all of his usual tropes and ideas (minus a dropkick). I feel as though the vat where Mickey is ground up serves as the summation for this film's depth. Much like his other science fiction explorations, Bong Joon Ho goes…

I'm glad I only ever saw the first trailer for this and went in as blind as possible. I saw the low review stats, but I never read up on anything else. There seems to be an emphasis on discourse over a lot of the film's subversions from the Werewolf genre. I for one welcomed everything Whannell chose to exclude. There have been so many Wolf Man and Werewolf movies that the cliche's continue being absolutely tedious. I liked the…

After having only seen one other Sean Baker film, I went into this with a fairly open mind. He truly has a wonderful grasp on the environment in and around the New York City area. His characters feel authentic and the movie showcases some wonderful bits of comedy. As much as it is catagorized as a comedy, I felt an unease for Ani through the film's time. And while it is handled with a comedic timidness, the movie gave me…

'The Ratcatcher' and 'Poison' were definitely my favorites of the 4 stories. The usual same-ness of the Wes style actually breaks apart in these segments with angled camera shots that weren't in the shape of a box.

As I have said before, I'm generally tired of his projects all looking the same. I love that he has his own style, it creates a standard, but he used to make more than just the same thing. This was more 'Asteroid City' but with Roald Dahl stories.

This is a movie for Godzilla lovers.
This is a movie steeped in the origins of a B-Film Franchise series.
This was made by a Godzilla fan, FOR Godzilla fans.
Critics can have their say, but at the end of the day - their problems will go over the heads of the primary group watching this. As an amatuer critic: I get it. Trust me, I see the problems. But this franchise is above that.

    As a lifelong Gojira fan,…

2020: The Year of the Remake, the Reboot, the Re-adapted - Part 9(b) of 52.

    "Surprise."
Surprised for sure, this was definitely a genuinely good, almost great, remake/reboot. The tension throughout the movie was well constructed, the score is overly bombastic and was easily my favorite technical aspect of this film. I personally prefer when remakes take a different route from their predecessors; why remake something without offering something…
