Black Narcissus 1947
Black Narcissus is truly a visual feat— the hazy technicolor, the painted backdrops, and the architecture are unlike those in other films made during its time. The symbolism is deeply layered (isolation, faith, physical beauty, self-restraint, colonization, human nature, vice) and underlying the film is a cautionary tale against the potential dangers of a group of nuns attempting to intervene in the native population and “civilize” them. What better way to implicitly hint at such a message than through Sister Ruth’s slow transformation and demise in the obscured Himalayas. My mind will never comprehend the execution of this film… the Archers made history!

Rosemary's Baby 1968
Out of all the insane things that took place here, I’m still thinking about Rosemary cooking the steak for a literal 3 seconds
