The Iron Claw 2023
This one really surprised me.
I was unfamiliar with the story of the Von Erich’s prior to this film and don’t know much about wrestling. Neither of these things matter when it comes to this film.
This isn’t an inspirational sports story (tho I’m a huge sucker for those) in fact quite the opposite. We are taken on a rollercoaster of pain & grief from the first moment. Zac Efron’s performance is captivating and holds its own amongst some of the best of the year. But truly every performance is incredible. And while the story is ultimately a tragic one, it captures the heart.

So look, I realize I have the outlying opinion on this one. But this is probably my favorite film of the year. There, I said it in a public forum.
My first thought upon finishing this film the first time was- Well, damn. I didn’t see that coming. And aside from a couple of scenes I think could have just been uh, shorter (you know the ones); that’s exactly my kind of fucked up, rollercoaster of a film.
