Anora 2024
Well acted, well shot, emotional moments, reasonable pace. Not a lot of substance in terms of the writing, especially in the second third of the movie. The no good, very bad day looking for Ivan reminded me of Good Time by the Safdie Brothers, but in this case, you always knew they were eventually going to find him. I left feeling confused how this is cleaning up at the Oscars. It’s very good, but not as layered as traditional Oscar winners.

Definitely has charming dialogue and really tangible performances. Just not enough meat on the bone for me, and that’s likely my own problem. Indie in true form.

Captain America: Brave New World 2025
Went in with an open mind, regretted going in at all. Terrible writing (genius super-hacker villain comes in person to stop a guy from making a call), terrible dialogue (tell me more about how important the treaty is), somehow a bad score too, all while trying to use the skeleton plot outline of Winter Soldier. I feel bad for Mackie and Ford who did the most with what they had. Heard audible sighs in our theater.
No desire to rewatch. Shame.
