The Substance 2024
Finding out the director was French changed my
view about this movie right after I watched it. The decisions made so much more sense. This movie also does a good job of not blatantly referencing “the times” or using technology in a corny way.It depicted the concept of inner turmoil kinda well. Like this movie is about “the perils of burning the candle at both ends” just as much as it’s about “women & age in society”.
I had to close my eyes during the body horror parts cause I was getting nauseous. Do not watch this movie stoned if you have a weak stomach.

Gran Turismo 2023
This was slightly better than Ferrari. David Harbour must be brolic bc he carried this entire movie on his back.
The fact that it’s based on a pretty inspiring true story saves this movie, otherwise it would be another corny “synergistic” adaptation of a video game.
My nitpick is that they changed the true story for the sake of bad plot. I do sympathize with the writers though, because how do you make an interesting movie about ultimately a guy who had a decent to middling career in bouncing around various “minor league” racing feeder series.
