  watching this again for the millionth time made me realize how deeply spiritual this movie is…the power is in you, and with enough belief you can return to your truest self, you can finally come back “home”.

  perfect storytelling.

  very culturally touching story, covering topics spanning from the Geechee culture, the aftermaths of slavery, and the debate between converting to Christianity and staying in touch with African spiritual practices.

  though there were things i didn’t understand, i know i need to watch it again to get things i missed.

  but overall this film was very unique and rich, it touches my soul in a way that can’t be described.
