  okay, i figured this was gonna be good, but i was not prepared. holy SHIT this movie is good. the kids acting is fantastic, i loved every single one of the characters. the set design and scenery is beautiful. the horror/darker elements are fantastic (not overdone or gratituous, but always unflinching.) the magic is super interesting (god i love childrens logic being taken seriously/extrapolated into an actual magic system!!!!) the pacing is excellent. the tone is a perfect blend of humor, tenderness, and tragedy. the plot ties together perfectly. this is getting 5 stars.
