I had anticipated it to be bad, but the actual quality is really beyond my imagination of how bad it could be. This film is just like a collection of little bumps, filling all the commercial elements ever exist in 110 minuets, you can see explosions, beloved characters sacrificed, internal conflicts and solving them with just words, ugly villains joined together to form a bigger one, etc. But something’s missing, yes, everything that makes a film is lost. The 110 minutes after all is an annoying commercial.

As a fan of the original novel, I feel really content. Garland definitely put a lot of work in rebuilding such a weird yet thrilling atmosphere and mysterious yet distant storyline, and he accomplished more by his color-using of ill but splendid. Maybe not enough money was a problem in the realization of the shimmer, but just a few glimpses was satisfying enough. A poetic sci-fi thriller, like a beloved child from Stalker and Under the Skin, the flaws made to compliant with commercial purpose is negligible.

Very stylistic, very cool action film. The action sequences of the film is like opening a new era for the action film genre, with the swift and fierce action design, and red mixing blue neon light. I have to say it’s been a real long time since a action film gave me such a thrill and refreshing experience just because of the action sequences. The storyline is much more mediocre aside, but the setting of the continental hotel full of international assassins is rather interesting, looking forward for the sequel.
