    Jagame Thandhiram

    ★★

Jagame Thandhirams biggest problem is that it doesn’t know what it wants to be. Even the visual palette here, which is always strong in a Subbaraj movie, lacks that focus too. While individual ideas may be neat, the overall picture comes out to being kinda generic.

However this movie is fascinating to look at as a precursor of what became Jigarthanda Double X, which handles this blending of masala and messages much more elegantly.

It’s sad to see Shankar not have any new tricks left.

This was one of my most anticipated movies of the year because I was curious to see what Shankar would do differently with the style and formula he pioneered in an Indian movie landscape where the new blood that were influenced by him took his ideas and ran (directors like Atlee, Lokesh, Murgadoss, etc.), but the thing is he doesn’t do anything differently.

It’s frustrating to see that Shankar…
