I normally don't vibe with movies that are unapologetically shallow, with a bit of a loose grasp on its own reality. That's the stick that is permanently in my butt about this movie. However, it is laugh out loud funny, and the closest thing to a campy film I've experienced in a while.
Some humor is hit or miss in either punchline or tone, and it has some tropes I think are beyond tired. What lands makes it worth it…
Great cast and characters. Perhaps spreads itself a bit too thin on what its commentating on (capitalism, colonialism, sincere expression in the face of both, choosing dignity vs survival, sexism/racism in entertainment becoming a part of a culture, etc). A million little messages that are done well, but become a bit thin with the quantity.
