This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Shyamalan is a victim of his own brilliance. His early films became such massive hits largely due to their shocking twists. No one could avoid the chatter. But when you make too many good “twist” films, your audience gets trained to spend all your subsequent films trying to “figure it out” instead of sitting back and enjoying the ride.
This movie is kinda the opposite of all of his previous films. You learn the twist almost immediately and then you…
That whistle is EVERYTHING, and the fact that is has been used by other movies and shows is further proof.
This movie has a lot of problems, most notably in its outdated and offensive language and dangerously wrong assumptions about mental health and genetics. However, the film is still rather captivating.
This is a very strange film. It is alllllll kinds of wrong, and it deserves more sensitivity and explanation than the bland warning provided. The entire premise is offensive.…
I think the real life treatment of Tippi Hedren by Alfred Hitchcock is abominable, but this movie just doesn’t quite land. This is a very talented cast, but I am not sure I ever truly believed these actors were the people they were representing. I just never felt immersed. This is an important story to tell to hopefully prevent future abuse of women in Hollywood, but this isn’t a great film, unfortunately.
While this film didn’t knock my socks off, there was plenty of charm. Subtle is a good adjective to use. There were witty one-liners and plenty of star power, but you could miss most of the jokes if you blinked. The overall moral of the story is about finding love in unexpected places. I can’t help but feel this could be a really quirky comedy if the proverbial volume was turned up a bit. Everyone’s performance was just rather…subtle. Perhaps that was by design. I also feel like I was really starting to get invested around the time the movie ended.
