  With "Annihilation", Alex Garland has crafted a modern science fiction masterpiece. I doubt anything in the foreseeable future will eclipse the brilliance of the Lighthouse scene. From the opening shot to the final moments, the sheer beauty on display and the profound implications of what is unfolding provide an almost transcendent experience for me. While the book is captivating and establishes a strong foundation, it's Garland who elevates the material to unparalleled heights.
  This continues to be an all time favorite for me, and I can't wait to dive back in (hopefully with the 4K transfer next time).
