A solid and unique horror romp by James Wan. This movie has all the James Wan classics, pan shots that evoke a dream like feeling only to be interrupted by a loud sound. In terms of pacing this film is pretty stark, it opens up with a bang (literally) where we're thrown immediately into a dark domestic abuse scenario with our main character ending in the most tame death you'll see in the film. It jumps through its acts in…
Slightly better than your average marvel film but that's mainly due to my bias that comes from my love of Eastern mythology and fantasy. The film starts of on a real high and it peaks during the bus fight scene but as the film goes on it becomes fairly evident that the writers ran out of steam and hastily put together a third act. The relationship between Shaun and his father was a huge missed opportunity, his father's past (which…
For Olivia Wilde's directorial debut, she bursts into the scene with a bang. This is very much like every other coming of age film that's been made for the last two decades, however what sets this apart is the characters. The main duo are the life blood of this film, and their chemistry together isn't to be scoffed at. In terms of plot this film very much follows the same beats you've seen in many other films of its genre,…
One of the best films I've ever seen, a must watch for murder mystery fans. This film boasts Daniel Craig's best performance, as well as probably the most unique and clever murder mystery plot ever written. It also has a fun aesthetic as it's set design looks like it's straight out of a Sherlock Holmes novel whilst taking place in the present. It uses this very effectively for a lot of the comedy it incorporates into the plot. This is definitely a contender for best film of 2019.
