Containing one really good car crash scene that lasts about 15 seconds and makes me wish the rest was better, this is a solidly enjoyable film moderately enjoyed after the last work day of the week, accompanied by a beer and a mild feeling of self resentment. It's a pretty good time.

Apparently required viewing to bridge the gap between DBZ and Super. Dragon Ball is absolutely the most exciting comic I have ever read. This film on the other hand is somehow mega boring. Don't believe everything you read on Reddit. Extra points for Pilaf though, that was kinda fun.
This is the second film I have seen by Kobayashi after the excellent Seppuku (Harakiri), and it's just as much a masterpiece. Kaidan (Kwaidan) is magnificent. Absolutely everything is stunningly handcrafted, from the elaborate sets and vibrant painted backdrops to remarkable special effects like raging snowstorms and dancing will-o'-wisps.
