Saw it about a decade ago and I always found the concept interesting. Acting is mostly bad, but it's still just a solid concept with a decent script.
I feel like there would be a renewed interest in this type of thing due to the success of Squid Games. That's probably why they even did the 2021 Japanese remake tbh, which I will be watching next.
havent seen enough japanese horror to compare this to likewise, but i still think it was a lot more engaging than most western horror.
finally got around to watching the original. the american version had a profound effect on me as a teen, it wasn't just a horror movie, it felt a bit deeper than that. i think i still prefer the american version, it's simply more visually pleasing, but the story is pretty much intact despite being placed in a different country.
didnt expect harold to basically play it straight and kumar to be somewhat goofy but nowhere near as strange as all the characters they meet. constantly weirding out even kumar is kinda funny.
sort of reminds me of peewee's big adventure.
