While being pretty simplistically straight forward about what it wants to say, American Fiction is quite well made, feels well intentioned enough and is stacked with an amazing cast delivering stellar scene stealing performances (even in the smaller bit roles) that one can easily overlook the "in your face" of it all.
A very well made, absolutely stunning rettelling of the vampire myth/adaptation of Dracula/remake of the 1922 silent movie, that sadly offers nothing new to the lore.
Major kudos for going all in with the gothic atmosphere, but I'm still not entirely convinced it adds much to the genre.
I think saying "while certainly not reductive it still felt a bit redundant" would sum it up pretty nicely.
