It was looking like 5 stars at intermission (yes, intermission) but it wasn’t to be. Brody was terrific but the audience frequently laughed at Guy Pearce as von Buren, and not always where the director intended, I suspect. Lots to like but another film where mixed ‘tone’ (including in the score - excellent first half, patchy later) is taken as indicating greatness but in my opinion undercuts the strong core of this movie.

Grand Tour 2024
Walked out. I waited for Molly to turn up. It didn’t help. 1/2 point for the guy at the 🎡 in Rangoon at the start. Half the film (including the 🎡) was cheap archival footage, a lot of it not even in tune with the period of the film. Deliberate? I don’t care. Yet again, style (or lack of) over substance.
