A comedy that is actually funny the entire movie. More impressive is the razor sharp commentary on American worker exploitation and the fetishistic absurdity of “propagating the species.” If such ideas seem baffling to include in a sci-fi movie, just remember we have J.D “Have More Babies” Vance as our VP.
Despite the dark subject matter, this movie left me feeling hopeful and empowered due almost entirely to Pattinson’s effortless likability.
I really like when Mark Ruffalo’s character sees something and goes “what is this bullshit?”

It Follows 2014
When I first watched this movie, I did so with myopic assumption that it was themed entirely around STDs. A reductive and uninteresting assumption. Watch this movie for its broader, more generalizable themes on coming of age/the loss of innocence.
It Follows succeeds because of its thematic accessibility, which I only discovered upon rewatch. I also enjoyed the synth soundtrack, the absence of jump-scares and cheap camera tricks, and the immense subtlety of Monroe’s performance.
A modern horror classic indeed.

The only thing holding this movie back is a ghastly scene wherein a character’s face balloons up in the vacuum of space. The visual serves so little purpose I can only assume it was included by the director out of spite for the actor he chose to balloon.
