Seldom have I been so thoroughly moved by something I’ve seen as I have watching this. It does an admirable job providing the viewer a window into the America of the 1860’s. I connected immediately with the humanity of these men and the horrific nature of the world in which they lived. The last episode was a mix of emotions and I commend the program for moving me to both celebrate and mourn events that occurred 160 years ago.

A sober look at the racing career of one of the greatest to ever do it. The documentary does itself a service by doing away with a narrator or cuts to generic talking head interviews and instead unfolding its narrative via archival footage of the races and people involved; letting them speak for themselves (with voice-overs added retrospectively when appropriate). This allows the viewer to, for a brief time, be pulled into the world of the documentary.
