  Yeah, there's a lot of issues you could mention with this movie - you could say the same with the 1939 movie also, but I don't care, this movie's kinda awesome. Some of the big musical numbers maybe go on a bit too long, but the cast seems to be having fun, so who cares? The idea of "Wizard of Oz, but in 1970's New York" is so bonkers I have to respect it.   Conan the Barbarian 1982

  I was pleasantly surprised by this. It's not like this the first movie with narration I've seen before, but this was the best use of it I've seen in a while. This movie really feels like a story from another time, another world that somehow came to ours. I felt like I was seeing a myth come to life. I'm sure this movie has flaws, but they seem unimportant in in an experience like this.

  Definitely a strong debut. This was a certainly a risk and I'm glad it managed to get traction. Quite honestly, living in this era and place would be scary enough, and the supernatural element is welcomed. The family's deterioration I thought was well presented. It was also interesting to see the whole subtext of "boy is menaced by witch" made pretty obvious. I look forward to watching The Lighthouse.
